All of the timber used by Pölkky’s production facilities are procured by Pölkky Oy. The competent staff ensures the flexible and practical supply of raw materials. Our partnership-oriented approach involves ensuring that the forestry division is also aware of our customers’ demands. The wood acquisition company acquires, fells and transports the raw materials from the forest to the sawmills.
Sustainable forest management
Our wood acquisition is based on the principles of sustainable forest management. Our purchasing managers know the environmental conditions in their own area of operations, and take the requirements of the forest itself into consideration throughout the procurement phase. Our PEFC certified wood is harvested in a sustainable manner from the great managed forests of the north with consideration for biodiversity. Our wood procurement promotes ecologically, financially, socially and culturally responsible forestry in our area of operation.
Our wood acquisition activities are guided by the PEFC ST 2002:2013 criteria specified by Finnish Forest Certification System, and Pölkky Oy and the management are committed to complying with those criteria. Pölkky Oy has been awarded the Chain of Custody certification PEFC-COC-FIN-1523 and PEFC/02-32-30. Pölkky’s sawmills are licensed to use the PEFC trademark.
Looking to sell timber?
Pölkky Oy purchases a total of about 1 400 000 m³ of pine and spruce timber on an annual basis. Pölkky Oy’s modern technology makes it possible to utilise timber to the last chip.
