Mr Phil Marshall has started as the Sales Manager for the UK market in Pölkky’s sales team in May 2022. Prior to joining the Pölkky team, he has an extensive experience in the timber industry in materials management, product development and sales. At Marley Eternit Ltd he worked with building materials wholesale. Subsequently, at Consolidated Timber Holdings CTH and their subsidiary Compass Forest Products Ltd he worked with timber and wood products trading.
Phil describes himself as a project-oriented person.
“I like projects and seeing them come to fruition. For me future developments at Pölkky, establishing themselves in the UK market, and seeing the investments within the mills the company is undertaking at the moment, seems pretty incredible and it was in my eyes too good of an opportunity to turn down.”
Compared to Phil’s experience from the timber industry, Pölkky has some prominent strengths. The centralized information throughout the company helps everyone stay up to date with stock and deliveries – together with Pölkky’s entrepreneurial spirit, this is great for the sales team as well, as it enables them to make decisions quickly and independently. Also, Pölkky’s product quality is one of the best Phil has seen, and with the investments the quality and production volumes are being increased even further.
After the end of the working day Phil is busy with his family. His little 1-year-old son is sure to keep the parents alert and active. When the work and family schedule allows, Phil also likes to do some sports, e.g. football, boxing and running.
Potential in the UK market
Pölkky is planning a steady growth in the UK market, which is why a local sales manager has been recruited to join the team. The anticipated growth in sales volumes has been taken into account, among other things, by preparing for logistics with charter vessels.
Pölkky has a lot to offer to the UK market, as high-quality pine wood products are in demand as a raw material to local manufacturing and building sectors. Also, the DIY sector is remarkable, and Pölkky has great products in suitable dimensions to that use as well.
